Seth: 1.18.22 - DIRT CHEAP SWEATERS!!!
Hey everyone! I want to just thank y'all for all those that read these emails but anyways, this week was another killer week! We had a bunch of dinners with members and they always feed us so much!. I am going to roll out of this area because of the amount of dinners we have with them. The ward here is amazing. They are always willing to lets a bunch of 19 year old strangers in for food. Elder Milne and I were left by Elder Bjerkøe as he traveled to Oslo for a meeting. We as greenies here in Norway... survived!! We had lessons without our Norwegian trainer! They went really well and the families/friends said that they felt the spirit. Mission accomplished! Today for P day we traveled to this really sweet sweater shop to buy some dirt cheap Norwegian sweaters. To compare the prices of items here in Norway to items in the USA, Imagine buying everything with an airport price. Everything here is super high quality but you are going to pay for it! Anyways, this sweater shop is one of the very few in Norway that sells dirt cheap sweaters. So I bought one. It's pretty cool. It's Norwegian.
As you can tell, This email is sent later than normal, because I forgot to send it during P day hours. So before I start my day today I would love to share a spiritual thought that I hope touches your heart as it did mine. This thought takes us to the story of Job. In the old testament, in the first chapter of Job, Job is a just man and is pretty rich. He follows God's commandments exactly, and has loads of money. Job has a pretty good life. Then one day it all comes crashing down. As you read throughout Job, he loses everything and becomes very afflicted with disease. So in essence, this perfectly just man that follows God still has bad things happen to him. In his case the worst things happened to him. With this story in mind, it begs the question, Why would God let bad things happen to good people. Even worse, God lets good things happen to bad people. I learned in 2 Nephi 2:13 that there must be opposition in all things. "11 For it must needs be, that there is an opposition in all things. If not so, my firstborn in the wilderness, righteousness could not be brought to pass, neither wickedness, neither holiness nor misery, neither good nor bad. Wherefore, all things must needs be a compound in one; wherefore, if it should be one body it must needs remain as dead, having no life neither death, nor corruption nor incorruption, happiness nor misery, neither sense nor insensibility." This scripture really didn't sit with me. The answer is to just deal with it? I cant see our loving heavenly father giving us all of these challenges and saying deal with it. I read Alma 7: 11-12 which talks about Jesus Christ and what he did for us "11 And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people. 12 And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; and he will take upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according to the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities." From this scripture I learned the solution. No bad things are not going to go away from our lives because opposition must exist. This does not mean that God hates us and wants to send us all of these trials and afflictions just to watch us squirm. He sent Jesus Christ into the world to pay the price for all of our sins, pains, sufferings, trials, temptations, and frankly every bad thing that has happened to us or ever will happen to us. I learned that Jesus Christ is the answer to the problem. Jesus Christ is not just a story in a really old book or two. Jesus Christ is our oldest spirit brother and has got our backs. I learned of this healing power through the power of the holy ghost through scripture study, prayer, and simply putting my faith into God. I promise that you can experience the same spirit that I felt.
