BOO! Did I scare you? I bet I did. It was Halloween yesterday!! This week was a rough start but ended just amazing. Ill tell you all about the amazing Halloween weekend with our Halloween chili cook off and trunker-treat we had but for starters we got destroyed this week! We went out finding and had almost no luck for hours! But the Lord doesn't allow us to use his time in vain, because at the end of a long grind, something amazing would happen! For instance we were out visiting some interested people and we were having no luck. Lessons were falling through, sort of interested people wouldnt answer there door, so on and so forth. But hey it has a happy ending! Right as we were about to go home with our heads down, we got a call from our new friend Tyler. Turns out a person my companion sat next to in church last week was not a member! He said that he grew up in a part member family but never got baptized and confirmed a member of the church. So in his words regarding baptism he said to us "so uhh could we get the ball rolling on me being baptized." Mind blown... so that was our mighty miracle for the week. Then back to the grind we went with lessons falling through and almost no luck finding people. This is missionary work. We sift through hundreds if not thousands of people to find the one that wants to let Jesus Christ prevail in their lives. Some times you find them, and in this case, they find you!
On Thursday we stopped at Bobs place again and we had some... Hot dog chili! Woot! woot! Bob is doing great as always. We told him about our Halloween ward activity and he said that he was going to cook the meat for 15 hours and buy the hottest sauce to put the chili in. So for the chili cook off/trunker-treat ward activity on Saturday, he pulled out all of the stops! We as the missionaries were the judges of all the chilis that were brought for the cook off. Boy to did we taste all of them. Some were decent, others were good, but there is only one who gets the first place prize! Drum roll... Bob! He had the most superior chili to all other chilis! The one to rule them all;) Bob made one chili and divided it into 2. He had mild chili and the other was melt your face off hot. So what do us brainiacs do with food when someone says try it? Down the gullet it goes. But this time the chili was lava! He said he put Carolina reaper hot sauce in it which by the way is one of the hottest peppers on the earth! It aint no jalapeño thats for sure. We were all dying. I was crying for 15 minutes, another missionary got those hiccups that people get when they eat lava. My companion almost threw up etc. Not pleasant, but the little masochist inside of my that likes spicy food liked it just a tiny bit. Not enough for me to try it again though. Bobs mild chili took the grand prize!
I dressed up for Halloween as... Elder Gonzales! He is in my district and we swapped name tags for the Halloween trunk or treat!
Anyways Sunday was an amazing day as well. We had tons of our friends pull up to church and had a great discussion on Temples and covenants. A little bit of a shocker to our non member friends but it all went well.
I want to leave yall with a thought that I have been pondering for quite some time. In 2nd Nephi 10:23-25 It says
"23 Therefore, cheer up your hearts, and remember that ye are free to act for yourselves—to choose the way of everlasting death or the way of eternal life.
24 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, reconcile yourselves to the will of God, and not to the will of the devil and the flesh; and remember, after ye are reconciled unto God, that it is only in and through the grace of God that ye are saved
25 Wherefore, may God raise you from death by the power of the resurrection, and also from everlasting death by the power of the atonement, that ye may be received into the eternal kingdom of God, that ye may praise him through grace divine. Amen."
I know that we have the freedom to choose our actions. We can take steps toward God or away. The only way we find lasting happiness is to follow God.
I love yall and see yall next week!
(Sorry I forgot to take tons of pictures!)
